Project Description

Inukshuk assisted the Cooperative Management Board to identify organizational and operational start-up needs following protected area establishment. The historic site is unique because of its size (5,587 km2), location on Great Bear Lake and cultural landscape focus. The new approach presented a number of challenges integrating the aspirations of the Sahtugot’ine people to protect and promote their culture, build management capacity and set operational priorities within a community development framework. Capital and operating costs for programming were developed and summarized in a strategic planning report as a reference for Boards decision-making and planning during the first 10 years of park operations.
