Swan Hills – Cold Lake, AB Railway Feasibility Study

Swan Hills

Project Description

The challenge was to determine whether a privately owned railway could be built to provide coal for a steam generating plant at Cold Lake for tertiary oil recovery. An initial assessment was required in a week. A route was identified, the approvals and environmental assessment requirements determined, and the results presented to senior management by the deadline.

Project Description

The firm’s principal was hired to resolve route selection and easement rights problems. An alternate route using an abandoned rail right-of-way was found, saving the client 6 months time and cutting the need for private property easements by 75%. Net cost saving exceeded $1M.

Alaska Highway & Dempster Lateral Pipeline Studies

Project Description

We evaluated land use impacts of corridor alternatives in the Whitehorse and Dawson City regions. Work required integrated resource analysis including a review of mining claims, current land status, trapline activity, wildlife habitat and related data.

Project Description

Inukshuk’s Principal provided volunteer technical planning advice to the Steering Committee that acquired the original 140-acre wetlands with funding from the Clifford E. Lee Foundation. He helped negotiate an additional 160-acre expansion and ensure local planning and zoning bylaws were amended to protect the area.
